Understanding the IL Freelance Worker Protection Act

Freelance workers in Illinois are entitled to protections under the Freelance Worker Protection Act (FWPA).
If you’re an independent contractor working in Illinois, or doing work for a hiring entity located in the state, and the value of that work is at least $500 in a 120-day period, you are entitled to a written contract, full payment for the work as outlined in that contract (or within 30 days if not specified), and protection from retaliation for exercising your rights under the FWPA.

At this program, we’ll be joined by representatives from the Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL), who will discuss the laws and your rights, share sample contracts, and explain how you can file a complaint with the IDOL. We’ll also take your questions.
