In the spring of 2005, Illinois Creates commissioned the first statewide survey of principals and superintendents to assess the status of arts education in Illinois, and to understand the
challenges in delivering arts education instruction in Illinois public schools.

The research, conducted with support from the Illinois Arts Council, The Field Foundation of Illinois, The Joyce Foundation and the Polk Bros. Foundation, provides information never before available to form the basis of statewide policy initiatives and priorities for arts education. It also creates a baseline for tracking and measuring progress in our state.
