More than 30 celebrated Illinois artists and cultural and arts institutions painted, constructed and otherwise creatively adorned megaphones with themes ranging from 18th century Chinese architecture, to Chicago's beloved Cubs and White Sox baseball teams, to one-of-a-kind original creations. Why megaphones? To visually portray the theme of the 2004 Illinois Arts Legend Awards - SHOUT - a celebration of the successful work of the Illinois Arts Alliance Foundation on behalf of artists and arts organizations across the state.

The megaphones were auctioned off at the event, which was held Friday, May 21, 2004, at the Museum of Contemporary Art Warehouse, 1747 West Hubbard Street.

The megaphones represented a broad array of artistic themes and mediums and a variety of cultural traditions. Prominent artists such as Ed Paschke, Michiko Itatani and Allen Stringfellow, (see complete list of artists below) and many of Chicago's leading cultural and arts institutions, including museums, theaters and arts councils, decorated megaphones to benefit the work of the Illinois Arts Alliance Foundation.
